Yesterday, was a “Taste of Sea Bright” Day,” which our daughter Joan was one of the primary architects. There was a trolley that continually looped the town stopping at various points. There were 27 businesses participating and many were restaurants. They gave away a small “Tappa” and Drink. By the first four stops we had eaten ourselves silly and thank goodness the driver of the trolley wasn’t participating.

Later in the day, the police helped provide transportation taking folks. if they were walking from one restaurant to the next restaurant, as there is some distance between some of them. This was a great touch and was reminiscent of the old days when the police were helpful and people were friendlier. It was a great day and I’m definitely looking forward to next year.

Yesterday was overcast and we had a slight drizzle on and off. While you might have thought this would have put a damper on the festivities, it actually seemed to help draw more people. We were inside much of the day and as one person said if it were a sunny day they would have been out on their boat – go figure.

What a wonderful event. All I saw were smiles, all I heard was, “This is great!!” kudos to you and the SBBA! I say the TOSB and SkimBash were the two finest days in Sea Bright last year!!!!

Sept. 27, 2008 was a very proud day for Sea Bright!

The businesses involved in the ‘Taste of Sea Bright’ event truly “stepped up to the plate” and provided
event-goers with a real class act!

Having personally visited every stop on the map during the event, I witnessed the masses having the time
of their life! The festive energy from the group was contagious…people were laughing and singing
on the trolley. One memorable song was “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”….in perfect harmony,
just the women would sing a verse, then the men would take a turn. The group would hop off the trolley with
excitement wondering what pleasures were in store for them at the next stop.

I stopped counting how many times I heard “This is great!”, and “Wow! I drive past here all the
time and no idea this place was here!”, and “I can’t wait to come back here again!”, and “I didn’t know this
was going to be so wonderful!” Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, was raving!!!

The crowd of smiling faces, the camaraderie, the warm friendliness, and the people strolling up and down
Ocean Avenue was reminiscent of the good old days in Sea Bright – everyone was glowing!

One of the best unplanned features of the event was when the Sea Bright Police Department stepped
in and gave event-goers complimentary rides in the back of the police cars to help them get around town!
People got such a kick out of it, taking photographs of their group in the back of the police car! Kudos to the
SBPD for helping out when the trolley was delayed!!! Everyone was complimenting the SBPD on how
wonderful and welcoming they were to our visitors. Please let them know how much their efforts were appreciated.

This event was truly magnificent for the businesses and the town, and will long be remembered in the minds of
our guests.

CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE WHO MADE THIS EVENT SO UNBELIEVABLY FABULOUS!

Thank you to Joan & the SBBA for organizing such a great event! The business proprietors were wonderfully accommodating and cheerful, food and drink was delicious, and we met new friends at every stop. We truly got a chance to “taste” what Sea Bright is all about!

This event was great!!!!!!! Much more than expected. My friends and I had a great time and are looking forward to next year’s event. My daughter (age 4-1/2) got quite a thrill riding in the back of the police car.

Kudos to Joan and the SBBA for hosting such a delightful event!

The idea was brilliant–the businesses benefit from the advertising, and the visitors get to enjoy a day full of great food, drink, and other added treats, like Yoga and hair salons!

Can’t wait for next year!!!

What a great idea Taste of Sea Bright was! Not only do I think the concept was terrific, it was also executed extremely well by all the businesses.

As a relative newbie resident to the area, one of the best things was getting the chance to visit places that we have either overlooked in the past. I’ll be sure to be back to several new “discoveries”.

Thanks to all who made this event as great as it was!

Dear Joan and SBBA Members

Wow!!! this event was amazing my family and I had a awesome time. I invited four out of town guests and the only thing they ever knew about Sea Bright was my address. Thanks to the SBBA they can now have places to go other than my house (Joking)

I can appreciate all the time and effort that goes into planning an event of this magnitude and it was a CLASS A ACT and will be the main event in Sea Bright for many years to come.

My guests made the following comments.

Lets book our daughters wedding at the Quey
Wow! Sea Bright Has lodging we can stay at the Fairbanks (Great News)
How much to join the Driftwood
Will Bon Jovi be at Elements
Mcloons is like stepping back in time
How do you play squash?
The best sushi ever!!
Next time we visit lets go out to dinner (fantastic)
Your Cops are so nice
Lets spend New Years Eve in Sea Bright (as long as the Fairbanks has a role in this idea)

Congratulations on a job well done

What a wonderful day! I have to admit, I didn’t know what to expect and was truly impressed by the organization and coordination that went into “A Taste of Sea Bright.”

Kudos to all involved. I hope it will return next year… we’ve already been talking it up! We enjoyed visiting some eateries and stores we had never been to before and are looking forward to returning to quite a few of them.

Getting a ride with SBPD was a special treat.

I hope the participating businesses felt it was a success. I think, especially for those who provided effective sampling opportunities and promotional coupons to encourage future visits, those businesses will be seeing many new customers return who will enjoy relaxing in their establishment rather than rushing off to get their entire card stamped!

Thank you to Joan and the entire SB business community!

thank you! thank you! thank you! what a wonderful event! saturday was just so much fun from beginning to end. sea bright was so alive, everyone was happy, it was a great day! i’m sure alot of hard work went into planning this event and it showed. every detail was covered and it was a huge success. everyone we met, both business owners and participants, were so nice, helpful and happy. i have been to most restaurants in town but got a chance to sample tasty treats from some new ones. i had invited a bunch of people to go with me but most cancelled due to the weather. i was so happy telling them about all the fun they missed. thanks for a most delightful day! looking forward to your next one. anne

Let me tell ya, I so wished I did not have class on Saturday when the Taste of Sea Bright was going on. I only got to spend maybe an hour and a half tops. But, what I experienced was just fantastic. People were having the time of their lives. It was almost like an Adult Trick or Treat event or even an Adult Treasure Hunt. They were so funny talking about all the toys, gifts and showing everyone their goodie bags. The Police were out of this world and they helped make it even more of a huge community success. Sure the SBBA needs to get another trolley etc. But people did not seem to mind that much with the police, hitch hiking, neighbors and business owners helping getting people transportation did not seem to bog down anyone. They were up one side of town and down to the other and having the time of their lives.

Thank you and I will most definitely go next year, count me in.

Suzie

My husband, friends and I had a great time. Kudos to the SBBA for a wonderful event. We all could not decide which restaurant was our favorite as they really went all out to impress the participants. We cannot wait until next year. Our group will be even bigger.

Also, thank you Captain Spahr, Officers Fisler and Huegel for your shuttles. It is nice to see the police getting applauded for their efforts. That was a great public relations event for your department.

Next year lets have more than one trolley. Thanks again!!

What a spectacular day for the Sea Bright Business Alliance (SBBA) and the community! I visited all 27 businesses – traveled with the Fire Ladies’ Auxiliary in the Trolley, car and yes, even in the Police SUV driven by Captain Spahr. What a blast!! The talk of the town was how wonderful the Sea Bright Police Department was to offer rides to our visitors. Everyone was laughing, in good spirits and enjoying all the treats that the businesses were offering. I did not hear a single complaint. People were saying that this was an adult “trick or treat”. Coming out of Yumi, two women asked me if I was the Mayor and I said yes. They told me that they saw me on Comcast Newsmakers promoting the “Taste of Sea Bright”. One of the women had an accent. When I asked her where she was from, she said Sydney, Australia and was visiting a friend from Rumson! All I kept hearing was, “I can’t wait until next year”. It doesn’t get any better than that!
A personal thank you to Scott Kelly and Brian George, Co-Presidents of the SBBA, Joan Osgoodby, SBBA Secretary for all their hard work and many volunteered hours in getting the SBBA, and Eleanor Barr, Treasurer, off to such a great start, and all the SBBA members who were part of such a successful event.
Congratulations!
Mayor Maria D. Fernandes

I have to say this was one of the most memorable times I have had in Sea Bright, my friends truly enjoyed themselves.

Congratulations to the SBBA for putting Sea Bright back on the map.

Trisha Spahr

This was so much fun! We had a blast……..I think the highlights were the free massages at the yoga studio and hanging out at the tiki bar at the Driftwood right on the beach. It was like adult trick or treating. You could tell the owners of the places were taking such pride in their food, the presentation was great. Very smart idea that many of the places gave out coupons, we will return in the future. We met a lot of fun people during the day, everyone was smiling and in a good mood. The day flew by, we had filled half our card by 2:00, the next thing we knew it was after 4:30 and we were scrambling to finish……….looking forward to next year………..

What a Great Day!!!! Started the event at the Tiki Bar and finished up at the Dockside. Met some great people. The merchants really stepped up and made everyone welcome. So many goodies. Had to stop eating at about the 4th stop — and still had many to go. Raved about the entire day to all my friends and co-workers. They want to make the next one. And Bravo to Sea Bright’s bravest. They also stepped up in the transportation runs — especially badge 123. Lots of singing on the trolley. Overall can’t say enough. Weather didn’t hold us back, that’s for sure. So much was offered Thanks to Joan for all she did.

This event last year (2008), was one of the best times! I am so excited for this year’s! Everybody had so much fun and there was not one problem.

I’m sure you are still hearing the compliments, so I want to add my voice to the mix. What a wonderful event you have brought to Sea Bright. It was great to see the streets packed with happy people, and our wonderful stores and restaurants filled with potential new customers.

Even the rain held off most of the day, proving once again that God loves Sea Bright.

Great, great job. Hats off to the SBBA for another great Sea Bright event.

Felecia Stratton

THANK YOU so much for the Taste of Sea Bright. We REALLY had a great time and enjoyed every moment of it. Our friends who drove down from Berkeley Heights also had a ball. You clearly organized a seamless day which will certainly generate business for the restaurants and shops. Based on the samplings, we definitely plan to begin patronizing Algrave Milano, Kotobuki and Trattoria G.—that’s the true test of success! For sure, Trattoria G had the most welcoming owners and should win the “Most Congenial” award.
